Our Data Privacy Philosophy

We're a small team building an app to bring more joy and connection to the world. Like you, we've been frustrated by companies that misuse personal data. We decided to build Celebrateful differently. In short, we treat your data the way we'd want our own to be treated.

Our philosophy is to only collect and use the information needed to provide and improve our service. We've designed our app with privacy in mind from the ground up:

• We never sell your personal data as a source of revenue.
• We don't share your phone number or full contact book with other users.
• We don't subscribe you to marketing lists just for signing up.
• Your celebrations, notes, and photos are private by default and only shared with the people you choose.

1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

To provide our services, we collect information in a few different ways.

Information You Provide to Us:

• Account & Identity Data: Your name, username, phone number, email address, and date of birth. You may also optionally provide your wedding anniversary (we only collect the day and month).
• Celebration & Content Data: Digital cards you create, personal notes, photos, gift choices, and any other content you post.
• Transaction Data: Details about gift cards or other purchases, which are handled by our secure payment partners.
• Recipient Data: Information about the person receiving your card or gift, such as their name and contact info, to ensure delivery.
• Contacts Data: If you grant permission, we access your device's contact list to help you find and invite friends. We only store information for the contacts you choose to invite.
• Communications: Information you provide when you contact us for support or give us feedback.

Information We Receive from Others:

• We may receive your personal information (like your name and phone number) from other users, for example, when they sync their contacts to send you a card or gift.
• If you log in via a social media platform (like Google or Facebook), we may receive information from your profile, such as your name, email, and profile picture, based on your settings with that service.

Information We Collect Automatically:

• Log and Usage Data: This includes your IP address, device information, browser type, operating system, and how you use the app (e.g., features you use, pages you view, and date/time stamps). This helps us maintain security and improve the app.
• Device Data: Information about the device you use, such as its hardware model, operating system, and unique identifiers.
• Location Data: Your approximate location (e.g., country or city), which can be derived from your IP address. If you give us permission, we may also collect more precise GPS data from your device. You can disable this in your device settings.
• Session Replay Technologies: We may use services that allow us to record and replay your interactions with our app (like clicks, scrolls, and text inputs). This helps us find and fix usability issues and improve your experience.

2. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

We use your information for specific, legitimate purposes:

• To Provide and Administer the Service: To create and manage your account, process your transactions, and deliver your gifts and cards.
• To Communicate with You: To send you updates, security alerts, and support messages, and to respond to your questions.
• To Improve and Personalize Our Service: To understand your needs, personalize your experience (such as by providing timely celebration reminders for birthdays and anniversaries), fix bugs, and conduct research and development. For this purpose, we may use de-identified or aggregated data.
• For Safety and Security: To prevent and investigate fraud, spam, or other harmful, unauthorized, or illegal activity.
• For Marketing: With your consent, we may send you promotional messages about new features or offers. You can opt out at any time.
• To Comply with the Law: To meet our legal obligations, enforce our terms, and defend our rights in the event of a legal claim.

3. WHEN AND WITH WHOM WE SHARE YOUR INFORMATION

We do not sell your data. We may share your information in the following situations:

• With Vendors and Service Providers: We share information with third-party companies that perform services on our behalf. We have contracts in place to ensure they only use the data for the purpose we hired them for. These include:

  • Gift card and brand partners

• With Professional Advisors: We may share information with our lawyers, auditors, and insurers as necessary in the course of the professional services they provide to us.

• With Legal Authorities: We may disclose information if required by law or if we believe in good faith it is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Celebrateful, our users, or the public.

4. HOW YOUR INFORMATION IS DISPLAYED

You have control over what others see in the app:

• Your Profile: Your public profile includes your name and profile picture. It is visible to other users you interact with. Your phone number is never displayed to other users.
• Your Celebrations: The cards, notes, and gifts you send are only visible to the recipients you select.
• Group Celebrations: If you participate in a group celebration, your profile name and any public messages you post may be visible to other participants in that group.

5. DATA RETENTION AND SECURITY

Retention: We keep your information only for as long as necessary to provide our service, or for other essential purposes like complying with legal obligations or resolving disputes. To determine the retention period, we consider the nature of the information, the potential risk of harm from unauthorized use, and applicable legal requirements.

Security: We use technical and organizational security measures, like encryption, to protect your information. However, no electronic transmission or storage technology is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. INFORMATION FROM MINORS

Our service is not directed to children under 13, and users must be 18 or older to make a purchase. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us at hello@celebrateful.com to request its deletion.

7. YOUR PRIVACY RIGHTS AND CHOICES

You have rights and choices regarding your personal information:

• Access: You can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
• Correction: You can ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
• Deletion: You can request that we delete your account and personal information.
• Objection & Restriction: You can object to our processing of your data for certain purposes (like direct marketing) or ask us to restrict its use.
• Withdraw Consent: Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
• Opt-Out of Communications: You can unsubscribe from marketing emails via the link in the email. For push notifications, you can adjust your device settings.

8. INTERNATIONAL DATA TRANSFERS

We are based in India, but we may transfer personal information to our service providers in other jurisdictions, like the United States. These countries may have different data protection laws. When we engage in such transfers, we ensure that appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, are in place to protect your information.

9. JOB APPLICANTS

If you apply for a job with us, we collect the information you provide in your application, such as your resume, contact details, and work history. We use this information to evaluate your candidacy, communicate with you, and comply with legal obligations.
